ICCI meets with Shri B.C. Patil, Honorable Agriculture Minister of the State of Karnataka
Milan (Italy) – On August 5th, 2022 our Secretary General, Mr. Luciano Pettoello Mantovani, represented The Indian Chamber of Commerce at an exclusive lunch/meeting organized by the Consulate General of India in Milan for the Honorable Agriculture Minister of the State of Karnataka (India), Shri B.C. Patil. The meeting was an occasion to discuss bilateral projects between Italy and the State of Karnataka in the field of agricultural machinery and equipment and Agricultural material.
Although the state of Karnataka has emerged as the pan-Indian leader in the field of information technology (especially in Bangalore) since the 1980s, it also leads the nation in biotechnology. It is home to India’s largest biocluster, with 60% of the country’s biotechnology firms being based there.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s Handbook of Statistics on Indian State, Karnataka’s foodgrain production, including rice, wheat, coarse cereals and pulses, has increased from 10.05 million tons to 14.5 million tons — in the last 15 years. Rice is the State’s staple food although all categories have been on the rise in terms of production in the past 15 years.
